How Justin Bieber might save your life someday

If you are a long time reader of Mom vs. the Boys you may remember some past posts about my little friends with great courage, Ryley and O. If you are new here, let me give you a quick run down- both O and Ryley had heart transplants before their first birthdays. So organ donation is near and dear to our hearts and I am lucky to have Joanna’s facebook status (Ryley’s Mom) to keep me in the loop on the campaign to raise awareness on organ donation.

Well, on Saturday I saw Joanna’s status had been changed to this-

Woohoo! Justin Bieber tweeted!!! The organ donation message just reached his 16 million followers!!

Amazing! So how did it go down?? Here’s the story:

20 year old Hélène Campbell, living near Ottawa, is waiting for a lung transplant. She began a campaign to get the attention of Justin Bieber and his fans to not only help spread awareness about organ donation, but to encourage people to take action and register at beadonor.ca.

She tweeted this-

Hey @justinbieber! I BELIEB you should use that Canadian voice of yours and help save lives like mine #beanorgandonor beadonor.ca #giveblood

Well, Hélène got her wish, and Justin saw the tweets and yup, he retweeted the important message to his over 16 million fans! He also sent her a few personal messages tweeting this-

@alungstory i got the word …. You have amazing strength. I got u. BeAnOrganDonor

help spread the word for @alungstory alungstory.ca #BeAnOrganDonor

and @alungstory NEVER SAY NEVER

So what kind of effect can one tweet have?? Well, if you are the Biebs and you have over 16 Million fans listening, and retweeting, it can do a lot.
The donor registration website saw 1,458 vistors on that day alone and from that, 326 of them registered consent for organ donation! What does a typical day look like for beadonor.ca? more like 300 visitors and 50 new people registering. This is AMAZING!
This is amazing for Hélène, amazing for Ryley and O, amazing for the people like Joanna who fight to spread awareness, amazing for YOU, amazing for me and amazing for all Canadians.
One donor can save up to 8 lives! That life could be yours.

How can you help? Visit beadonor.ca and register your consent. You need to talk to your loved ones about your wish and register with your province, if that’s an option where you live. Time is of the essence in situations like this and doctors need to have the information quickly. Click the image below to take you there.

Give the Gift of Life-Be a Hero, Be a Donor

Hélène, I hope you get your lungs honey! I am routing for you, stay positive! ~ Hugs and Prayers!
