Virtual Play Date ~ River Fun

Last Summer I was so good at sharing with you all our weekend adventures through a series of Virtual Playdates. This Summer, I admit, I dropped the ball! But right before Summer ended we took the boys back to one of favourite river spots on a hot day and my camera was in tow. The place was packed, as the whole town it seemed had arrived to splash and play on the last weekend of Summer!

The water in this area is only ankle to knee deep in most areas. You might be wondering why my oldest son is wearing water wings and the younger boys aren’t. Sadly, this is due to him almost drowning in a friends backyard pool a couple of Summer’s ago. He is very nervous in the water now without his wings and prefers to wear them.

superThis kid is SUPER!

Nothing more fun than throwing rocks into the water and watching the splash! river

Canada is GORGEOUS!!!

otter 2

We found a little otter friend! Looks like a drowned rat doesn’t he? He was scooping up crayfish to eat from under the rocks and kept us quite amused running and shaking the water off his coat.

Unfortunately, our day ended short as our little dude cut his leg. We aren’t sure if he cut it on a rock or a zebra mussel but it cut open quite wide and we took him in to the hospital just in case stitches were needed. After an incredibly long wait, it turned out they just glued the cut together and we were finally on our way. Two days later he fell on the driveway and split it back open again so it was all for nothing anyway! lol Boys!

  1. That looks like a gorgeous spot! So sorry to hear your big guy has lingering fears about the water, but – caution around water is always a good thing! Michael told me this year, almost in tears, that water wings aren’t for 7 year-olds. But, oddly, he’s happy to wear a full-on life jacket around the water, so I still figure that’s a win!

    • yup, it’s true. He probably looks a little silly in water wings, but better safe than sorry. it would be so much harder if he was unwilling to wear them and needed them right? at least Michael is willing to wear the life jacket, whatever works!

  2. Beautiful photos! Looks like a really lovely spot. (And really makes me miss summer!)

  3. I’m amused that again, much like many of your play dates from last year, it all comes down to water and rocks. I’m also incredibly envious of you guys spotting an otter! What a beautiful spot to spend the day.

  4. What a lovely way to spend a day with the family Jennifer and your photos are gorgeous! I can just imagine sitting in that little waterfall, like your boys, cool drink in hand and the warm sun beating down. Makes these fall days not so appealing after all, LOL. That little otter must have been a panic to watch! What a great outing for everyone 🙂

  5. Oh that looks like a GORGEOUS place….makes me sadder to see the summer gone

  6. My dad fished every weekend so I grew up playing in rivers like this one. Brings back lots of memories!

  7. Wow just kinda makes you wanna be there, your boys are so super adorable, you could just eat them up (metaphoric no literal) lol. I laughed at your final exit on this post, how your son cut it open and ahhhhhhhh boys. Ain’t that the truth!

  8. I will say it again, boys will be boys. Mine fell in the stairs and it’s not because he was running down to the basement, he was walking lol! Great photos and thanks for sharing.
