Hand in Hand

Last year my middle boy started kindergarten and it was a rough year for him, he just found the whole thing a little overwhelming and anxiety crept in. Most mornings he cried and screamed that he didn't want to go to school, but once he got there he seemed to do okay. It was hard on all of us. Mornings were hectic and stressful and the whole family suffered for it.  My youngest was eager to start school, he would have gladly taken his older brothers place and there were days that one stood in … [Read more...]

Love notes before bed

After the Blissdom Canada conference early last month, my son was looking through some of the items that made their home in my swag bag. A little red notebook and some pencils fell out of the Timspiration package from Tim Hortons.  "Can I have these?" he asked "Sure Buddy" I replied and during that very moment our entire night time routine would be changed for the better. My husband and I tucked the boys into bed that night and crawled into bed ourselves to watch some television. … [Read more...]

How to create a Surfer Boy Bedroom for your lil’ surfer dude!

It was just before our trip to Florida that my oldest son declared that he wanted to move out of the room he shared with his two younger brothers and have his own big boy room. It was the boys' idea to bunk three to a room, so we were happy to accommodate his request and move him on out and into his own space. On our trip to Florida, we stayed in a vacation home where he got to test out having his own room and it pretty much sealed the deal. He loved it! The sand and surf of Florida also … [Read more...]

Boys and Guns: Crossing the Line

I was finishing up some work on my computer one day last week, knowing that it would be soon time to pick up the boys from the bus stop, when the phone rang. I looked at the number on the handset and recognized it right away as the phone number for the boys school. My stomach clenched a little like it always does when the school makes an unexpected call and I answered with some trepidation. The teacher reassured me immediately that the boys were fine, but I could tell from the tone of her voice, … [Read more...]

Tips to Keep your Boys Reading this Summer

Girls love to read don't they? I spent hours flipping through books when I was little, and never went on a road trip with the family without an Archie comic! We usually traveled with my BFF's family and we would both read one on the way to our destination and then switch when we got there so we could have a new read for the trip home!  But boys are a whole other breed, my oldest loved books when he was very young, but around age 5 I could already see it fading and by age 6, he was giving … [Read more...]

Mommy’s So Pretty

All of my boys are quick with kind words, but maybe none more than my Little Buddy. He started telling me I was 'so pretty' at a young age and never looked back, saying it so many times in fact that it grew into a song! And with him only being 3 and all, he didn't have a huge play list of songs running through his head and this one really stuck. He would sing it almost every day at random times. At the breakfast table, in the van, playing in the sandbox....it quickly became my favourite song … [Read more...]
